Alien Shores was built around an idea I find useful: landscape as a place of memory, imagination, yearning and belonging.
In practice that meant Eva Jospin’s corrugated cardboard forests — work you want to walk into rather than look at. Tomás Sánchez’s painted jungle interiors where every leaf feels like a deliberate decision. And Georgia O’Keeffe placed among them, unexpected and completely coherent, which is its own curatorial argument.
The show didn’t explain itself much. That’s the right call when the subject is already this loaded.
